Tonight on NXT the brand new NXT Champion Karrion Kross started the show fresh off a huge win against Keith Lee at NXT: TakeOver XXX.
Something was noticeably different about Kross; however, as he was sporting a sling on his arm while carrying his brand new prize. Kross informed everyone that he “did exactly what he said he was going to do” when he became Champion.
He also said he understood how things work and that WWE would never allow him to defend his title hurt. Karrion Kross noted that sometimes when you go to battle you don’t always come out unscathed.
It was then that he announced that he would have to relinquish his title due to injury. As we previously reported at TRR, Karrion Kross suffered an injury during his TakeOver match with Keith Lee separating his shoulder.
Karrion Kross would go on to say that he feels sorry for whoever gets in his way when he returns to claim what’s his. It was another extremely unfortunate moment in the history of wrestling.
Kross had finally reached the top after years of hard work, working his way to the top after traveling the world and honing his craft. It’s a tough break for sure and very reminiscent of when Finn Balor won the Universal Champion only to get injured and have to give it up.
Hopefully, for Kross, his path back to the top isn’t quite as long as Balor’s. Karrion Kross is one of the brightest new stars that WWE has and there is no doubt there are big things on the horizon for him when he returns. He has the talent and potential to be one of the biggest names in the industry.
Hopefully, WWE inserts him right back into the title picture when he makes his way back. The timetable for his return is currently unknown but could range from a few weeks to a few months. For now, everyone will have to watch their backs because at some point or another everyone pays the Ferryman of NXT. Consider yourselves on borrowed time… tick tock.
As for the NXT Championship itself, NXT General Manager William Regal announced on NXT tonight that there would be a fatal 4-way iron man match next week to determine a new champion. The match will consist of all former champions such as Adam Cole, Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano, and Finn Balor.
That’s, certainly an exciting way to go about things, and as unfortunate as the circumstances are we can’t wait to see what happens.
