Azteca Underground, which is run by Konnan and Court Bauer in MLW, is being set up to be a revamped version of the popular Lucha Underground, which ran from 2014-2018 on the El Rey Network before it closed it’s doors.
We previously reported at The Ringside Roster that the idea was hatched to bring it back under a name new, but with the same atmosphere and in a factory type setting.
We also exclusively reported that we had spoken to multiple former big names who were part of Lucha Underground about it’s rebranded return, and if they had been contacted.
We’ve now learned at The Ringside Roster that Azteca Underground is looking to bring back as many originals as possible. Word is that a bunch of additional names have already been contacted. However, several names are now in different promotions, so we’ll have to see who they’ll be able to get to return. Ultimately, it will be about securing a TV deal before any of that happens.
The Ringside View: Lucha Underground brought something very different with its cinematic storylines and factory feel. We were big fans of the concept and look forward to its return.
