Paul Heyman is currently a part of SmackDown as the head council to the Universal Champion, Roman Reigns.
Prior to that though he was the head of RAW Creative before being unceremoniously fired from the position. At the time it was definitely a shock and there were many in the company that were surprised as well.
Since that time Paul Heyman has been pretty tight lipped about things, but now he’s finally speaking about it. He recently spoke to ESPN and had the following to say.
“I served at the pleasure of the Chairman Vince McMahon and there came a day I was no longer at the pleasure of the Chairman Vince McMahon. When I took the role of Executive Director, I made an agreement with Vince McMahon, I want this job as long as every morning Vince McMahon woke up, he said thank God or whatever deity he subscribes to Paul Heyman is looking after the store on Raw. And the day that Vince McMahon didn’t wake up and feel that way, I didn’t want the job anymore.”
“Apparently on that day on that given time and given moment, Vince didn’t wake up that morning thanking whatever deity he subscribes to that Paul Heyman was in charge of Raw. We left with a smile, a handshake, and a hug. Absolutely no harsh feelings and actually better feelings about each other because of the way that it ended because it’s ended miserably before.”
It sounds like for whatever reason Vince McMahon no longer believed that Paul Heyman was the best man for the job.
Unfortunately for stars like Aleister Black and Andrade who Paul Heyman was a big fan of their pushes have now started to suffer. Bruce Prichard now runs the show in Heyman‘s place and Vince McMahon simply doesn’t feel the same way as Paul Heyman did.
Heyman is arguably one the best creative minds the business has ever seen. His knowledge and experience are now being used with Roman Reigns, which will serve the Tribal Chief well on his road to being one of the top stars in the business.
