Jon Moxley has had a stranglehold on the AEW Championship for almost the last 300 days. He’s defeated every challenger from Lance Archer to Brian Cage.
However, at AEW Dynamite, Winter Is Coming tonight the unthinkable happened. Moxley was dethroned by Kenny Omega who became the new AEW Champion. Omega climbed a mountain most thought was impossible.
It wasn’t without controversy though as Impact Wrestling’s Don Callis interfered during the match. The distraction allowed Omega to hit Moxley with a microphone, and then the One Winged Angel for the win. The two then quickly ran off to the parking lot where a car was waiting.
Before they could get away they were stopped for an interview. They then revealed that they were headed to Impact Wrestling on Tuesday with the title.
This is obviously groundbreaking news. It would appear that AEW and Impact now have a working relationship. We’ll have to see exactly what it means going forward, but it’s definitely exciting.
