Recently we reported about a possible return for the popular and unique Lucha Underground promotion that was set in a factory-type setting and ran from 2014-2018 on the El Rey Network before its cancellation.

There had been recent talks about reviving the show under a different name with the same concept. The channel that it airs on however would be different as El Rey Network closed-back late in 2020. We also spoke to several former top Lucha Underground talents at the time who commented on a possible return and if they had been contacted. Now it appears like things could be well on their way. We’ve received information at The Ringside Roster that both Konnan and Court Bauer have come up with an idea for an Azteca Underground angle. There were some teases about this a few months back in MLW. The faction Promociones Dorado is led by Salina de la Renta and was secretly purchased by a mysterious man named “El Jefe” (ring any bells?..)

There has also been a website launched now for Azteca Underground which looks very similar to Lucha Underground and showcases various different things and categories such as the luchadores which brings some familiar faces including Mil Muertes and a section called “The Proprietor” as well as the MLW Championship.

It’s clear that something big is in the works. We can’t wait to see how everything plays out and we will continue to work on further updates regarding the status of Azteca Underground. This is certainly exciting news for fans that have been missing The Temple. Konnan was a big part of Lucha Underground and we are sure that this new take on things will do great in his hands.
