AEW currently has a lot of big things that they are working on and one of those things is their very first console game.
For years now fans have looked for another true alternative in pro wrestling games and it seems like that time is finally getting closer. We’ve seen some promising footage so far of the game which has a very Day Of Reckoning/No Mercy-like feel to it. However, it’s clear that things are still very much in development.
Eager fans have been wondering about exactly we could see the AEW video game be released and it appears we have a better idea about that now. Kenny Omega recently spoke to the Wrestling Observer about the upcoming game.
“So far we’ve got a lot of cool things incorporated into the game that I think fans are gonna really love. We’re starting to work on some more of the character models, and not many of them are 100% complete, but when you see them come together, and you see them start to look more like the person that they’re supposed to be. Then you see the wrestling engine, and how the matches are starting to flow in the gameplay, it starts very bare-bones and everyone has placeholder moves, but when you start to see the actual movesets get plugged in and various other systems that we’re incorporating, it gets really exciting.
So far, so good, but it’s going to be a process, and I’ve said this before, but it’s not something that we’re rushing. We do plan to hopefully get it out by next year. But [we] can’t commit to a solid date just in case.”
2022 may seem like a long time to wait for a game that’s been in development for a while now, but Kenny Omega and AEW want to ensure that fans have a great experience while playing.
One thing is for sure and that’s that we can’t wait to get our hands on it and start playing already. The only question is…who should we use first and what kind of match should it be. We’ll have to think about that one.
